Patients for Patient Safety and Inpatients’ Perceptions of Safety in three Hospitals in Tshwane, South Africa

Background: It has been found that an increasing number of patients are being harmed while receiving hospital care, and many reporting models woefully insufficient. Patients' involvement in their own safety during hospitalization shown to make healthcare systems safer. Their perception may differ from health care workers, but contribution brings a different perspective. There is currently no data on for patient Pretoria's Tshwane District. Methods: This was cross-sectional study using semi-structured validated questionnaire calculated sample size 281. Data were analysed both Microsoft Excel Instat software programs. Simple descriptive statistics employed the results presented tables. Inferential association variables, statistical significance set at p <0.05. Results: The majority inpatients single (184; 65.5%), female (163, 58%) with secondary school education (175; 62.3%). Patients not informed about rules (205; 73%), or importance wearing identification bracelet (232; 82.6%) meaning colour-coding (271; 96.4%). They provided (146; 52%) asked get involved (54; 54.8%). happy regarding issues confidentiality privacy (166, 59.1%). satisfied pain control (221; 78.6%). Conclusion: ‘patients safety’ principle effective these institutions. unaware precautionary measures. Standard procedures should be established allow participate safety.
